Canfield Solitaire: how a round works

Use the rule sheet as a reference. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Select cards directly on the tableau and work through a full solo deal. The same rule applies on a phone and on a computer. Keep the active rule in mind. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically. Check the relevant controls before continuing.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Try a more deliberate round

Before making a move, check the cards in view. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot. Use another round to revisit a decision.

What counts as success

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear. Work at your own pace.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Move exposed cards onto suit foundations in the stated rank order.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

How to use the controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Take the next action only when the current step is clear. A clear plan starts with the current position.

See how the rules apply

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Check the relevant controls before continuing.

A common point of confusion

Keep the active rule in mind. Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Use another round to revisit a decision.
